What is an expression or idiom for saying something stupid or getting caught in your own words?

Like, for example, last night on the Daily Show this guy who was anti-gay was saying that Hitlers army wanted to project widespread hate on s in order to hide the army's own uality. And the reporter said something like, "so you're saying that what you hate the most is actually what you hide in yourself?" and the guy paused, realized he was caught in his own words. What would be an expression for that?
