Do i need 2 2 channel amps to go to 4 speakers?

or can i have them bridge the channels so that there are 2 speakers on one channel and 2 on the other. With subs it seems like the stock speakers are just not keeping up. Would i be better off getting one of those 4 channel amps or what? Would replacing the stock HU make it be much different?
